Thoughtful Analysis-Rebecca DeMarco
The article I read had to do with the importance of Assistive Technology in the classroom and how it benefits children with disabilities and supporting their participation in the classroom. I agreed with this article in terms of the importance of applying this type of technology to help students. Technology can be used in so many different aspects and it can only benefit to these students' learning. The article discussed how to use technology to help them but to also be aware of the things that they are already capable of doing themselves. I feel that is so important to be aware of the tasks that students can already perform on their own without needing that assistance because the overall goal is for students to be able to do things on their own. We never want to be doing things for them or making everything too easy because we want them to learn how to perform these tasks on their own. It is amazing to me all the things technology has to offer in terms of helping children in the classroom. There are so many devices and such a wide range of equipment that can be used to support participation and learning. We as teachers also must consider the level of technology necessary for the child to fully participate, what technology is best suited to the child's needs and abilities, and what can reasonably be used in the environment given the available space and resources. I agree with the article's lesson and the importance of this type of learning tool. I hope to implement these ideas and tools in my classroom someday because I feel that this will only benefit and enhance my student's learning abilities and help them to be participants in the classroom without constant struggle.

I also read the article on Assistive Technology and agree with everything you said. I especially like how you brought up the point that as future educators we must be aware of the different tasks students can complete on their own.
ReplyDeleteI agree that as a teacher we need to know the ability level of our students. If a student can do an activity with out assistance, there is no need to make them use assistive technology. It is a great feature that can be used in the classroom but it should only be used when appropriate and the child actually needs the help.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rebecca that it is important to know the ability level of our students. I also agree that it is important to be aware of the different tasks students can complete on their own. Sometimes, Assistive Technology may not be very beneficial to students if they are not 'assisting' the student. This is where the student's individual learning level plays a significant role in searching for an effective tool from all available Assistive Technology. This is a great feature to be used in the classroom and I think that all teachers should take advantage of it if it is offered in their school district.
